DCLA DOG ADOPTION PROCESSING

Time and Place

Please coordinate with your dog’s foster and the DCLA team to meet at the shelter to process the adoption. Usually, dogs are processed at the shelter they started at.

North Central Shelter

3201 Lacy St. Los Angeles, CA 90031

Open Tues-Fri from 9am-5pm, Sat & Sun 11am-5pm.

East Valley Shelter

14409 Vanowen St. Van Nuys, CA 91405

Open Tues-Fri from 9am-5pm, Sat & Sun 11am-5pm.

Paperwork & Medical

While you fill out the paperwork, your dog may go through a medical exit exam to make sure they’re up to date on vaccines. You will receive shelter medical records and microchip information with your adoption paperwork.

Fees

The shelter adoption fee is typically about $125 including licensing. Fees are set by the city and can vary by jurisdiction and length of time the dog has been in the shelter system.

Leash Walking Class

Adopters of a Dog Coalition dog are invited to one Sunday leash walking class just before or after processing the adoption. This is your opportunity to get up to speed with the skills your dog has learned in foster. We often suggest scheduling your walking class just before your shelter appointment. It’s a great opportunity to bond before bringing the dog home. We also encourage all new adopters to pursue private training and will happily refer you to local trainers.
